HAYMAN Island in the Whitsundays, a dazzling playground of the rich and famous, has been listed for sale by its Malaysian owners Mulpha, according to reports in The Australian.

While the resort has been closed since sustaining damage in the face of Cyclone Debbie earlier this year, it is still one of the most prestigious gems in the state and could command upwards of $300 million.

In 2014 it famously played host to the cast of Modern Family.

But Hayman has struggled for consistency over the years with several management changes and it has battled in the volatile high-end market.

There have been rumours the Oatley family, owners of nearby Hamilton Island, are interested in expanding their Whitsunday empire, but in a statement, the group refused to be drawn into the speculation. — Jeremy Pierce Courier Mail
