Unlicensed driver rolls the dice
DRIVING without a licence not only cost James Dean Rixon a $300 fine, it also breached his probation and put him at risk of spending time in jail.
Rixon was intercepted by police while driving a silver vehicle on Shute Harbour Rd, Cannonvale, at 4pm on Sunday, July 2.
He admitted he didn’t have a driver’s licence and police checks revealed he hadn’t obtained one since moving from New Zealand.
“I apologise for my negligence,” Rixon told Proserpine Magistrate Simon Young, who responded by saying, “you don’t have to apologise to me - you’re the one risking 12 months in jail”.
Mr Young was told no action would be taken by the Department of Corrective Services in relation to the breach but noted Rixon had been “really rolling the dice”.
