Raiders slay Slade Point in walkover
RUGBY UNION: The Whitsunday Raiders left the field grinning ear to ear last Saturday after destroying the boys from Slade Point.
Having to contend with dwindling numbers in the front row the Raiders hit the field with only Daniel Hays playing prop.
Inside centre and captain of the side Shannon Wolland said it was fortunate that other players were able to take on new positions and make up the numbers in line outs and scrums.
Again, Wolland said the Raiders managed to implement a pre-game plan.
“We pretty much chipped away at them and getting our structure and game plans sorted. Once we got on top of them the boys started enjoying themselves,” he said.
And enjoy themselves they did – running in 41 points to Slade Point’s 14.
“It was pretty rewarding and seeing everyone's faces happy with the way they played.”
This week’s 3,2,1s went to Trent Cadwaller, Tom Hutchinson and Daniel Hays respectively.
Next Friday, north/south rivalry will be slugged out at the Whitsunday Sportspark when the Raiders meet the Bowen Mudcrabs.
Wolland said the Raiders are still dealing with a few injury problem and doubt to field a full pack against the Mudcrabs.
He encouraged rugby fans to support the team.
