A great weekend ahead to celebrate

Whitsunday Times - - YOUR SAY - SHARON SMALLWOOD Editor

EVERY year we work closely with the Whitsunday Reef Festival committee to promote what is arguably the region’s favourite family friendly event.

And every year I see first-hand the challenges this committee of hard-working volunteers faces.

It’s never easy pulling off something of this size and calibre.

But this year those challenges have been multiplied at least ten-fold – by the whirlwind that was Cyclone Debbie.

With the devastation many have had to work through in terms of damage to homes and possessions and disruption to daily lives, I think few of us could contemplate organising a major event as well.

But that is what Margie Murphy, her committee and team of volunteers have done.

It is an extraordinary achievement to have put together the 17th annual Whitsunday Reef Festival and from the team here at the Whitsunday Times, and on behalf of the community, we salute you.

I sincerely hope this weekend’s array of events is enjoyed by as many locals and visitors as we can cram into town. We have plenty to celebrate.
