Almost six times over

DRIVING 500m down the road in pursuit of better phone reception was enough to put an abrupt end to an otherwise “unblemished” driving history for a Mandalay woman.

At 11pm on July 11, police found Sharon Margaret May, 52, inside her Mazda in a ditch on Mandalay Rd.

She recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.293 after making the decision to drive having drunk a number of stubbies and a bottle of wine following a domestic disagreement.

Defence solicitor Elizabeth Smith said May had been desperate to contact her father.

Magistrate Simon Young said the reading was “extraordinarily high”.

May was disqualified from driving for 18 months and copped a $2000 fine.
