TRIATHLON: Fresh from a change of scenery as a yachtsman aboard Team Oracle in the America’s Cup, dual Olympian Ky Hurst will headline the Airlie Beach Icon Homes Ocean Swim on Saturday, September 2.

Hurst is familiar with the region having won the prestigious Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim previously and jumped at the offer to return to the area.

“I was keen to support the race and highlight the wonderful waterways of Airlie Beach,” he said.

The event will include three different distances as well as a fun ‘Anything Goes’ category.

The juniors can dip their toes into the world of open water swimming, an Olympic event since 2008, with a 350m swim.

The 750m event will be a great event in its own right, besides an excellent warm-up for the following day’s Colorbond Triathlon.

Hurst will line up in the feature event – the 2km swim. The race will comprise two 1km loops and should ensure spectators can stay abreast of all the action.

Entry to the swim can be paired with entry to the triathlon and save participants in both events $15, or for those who want to stick to the water only it’s just $25 to enter the swim. Racing starts at 8.30am. For more or to register visit www.whitsunday triclub.com.
