Street parade lauded the best

Whitsunday Times - - YOUR SAY - SHARON SMALLWOOD Editor

AFTER everything the people of the Whitsundays have endured in these four post-Cyclone Debbie months, there was a wonderfully refreshing atmosphere of fun at the Airlie Beach main street on Saturday.

It was truly heart-warming to see the effort made by entrants to this year’s Whitsunday Reef Festival Rotary Street Parade.

School children of the Whitsundays were decked out in their colourful best, volunteer groups looked a million dollars and our business community really pulled out all the stops.

A lot of people told me afterwards they thought this was one of the best street parades yet.

And so it should have been.

If ever there was time the community needed that colour and vitality, 2017 was it.

Congratulations to all involved in organising the parade and all of the weekend’s Reef Festival events.

And of course, with the start of Airlie Beach Race Week there is more to come.

Race Week organisers have once again gone to great lengths to ensure the Festival of Sailing is a ‘whole of community’ event, so please get out there and join in the fun.
