Sa­rina golfer nabs the 2017 Proser­pine crown

GOLF: Last week­end had the Proser­pine Open Golf Cham­pi­onships played in the ladies on Fri­day, mixed four­somes on Satur­day, and the men’s on Sun­day.

The Proser­pine Open Cham­pion for 2017 is Sa­rina golfer Chris Goule­vitch who came in with a gross score of 105 for the 27 holes.

Run­ner-up was Pe­ter Brit­tain of the Pi­o­neer Val­ley club, on 107.

The A1 win­ner was Townsville’s Karl Nielsen, 110, and run­ner-up was lo­cal David O’Con­nor 116.

B Grade was won by Al­lan Al­li­son of Townsville, 120, run­ner-up Marl Thomp­son 124.

C Grade was taken out by Mark Schu­bert 135, and run­ner-up was Michael Ca­ton 139, both from Proser­pine.

Nett win­ners were:

A Grade: Nathan Holmes (Proser­pine) 98, run­ner-up Craig O’Ke­effe 105 (Rich­mond).

A1: Bruce Fielder 98, run­ner-up Rod Wecker 100.

B Grade: Chris Doblo 99 on a count back from Martin Kor­nis.

C Grade: Pe­ter Lewis, 106, on a count back from Townsville’s Isaac Reeves.

The Mixed Four­somes was a closely fought af­fair be­tween the teams of Mel Pat­ullo and Scott Grigg, and Tr­ish McNeill and Rob Stan­ley, both with 80 gross.

McNeill and Stan­ley were win­ners on the first play-off hole, record­ing a par to Pat­ullo and Grigg’s bo­gey.

Meg Lyons’ prac­tice round on Thurs­day paid off as she and part­ner Jake Nurse were third.

The nett event was won by Linda Wardroper and Michael Ca­ton 63.5, over Gary and El­sp­beth Scot­tford 67 on a count back.

The pin shots went to Mel Pat­ullo on one, David Brown­smith, two, Gra­hame Ge­orge, 13, and Faye El­der on 16.

The over­all Ladies Cham­pion was Ayr golfer Tara Jenk­ins with gross 76.

Other A grade gross win­ner were Donna Watkins, Mackay, and Lyn Muller, Proser­pine.

TOP DRIVE: Jenny Houn­sell took a hard swing at Proser­pine Golf Course on Sun­day.
