Cannons meet sets records
SWIMMING: Cannonvale Cannons Swimming Club president Tony Parkinson has heralded the North Queensland Short Course preparation meet as a “big success”.
“The two day carnival, held at the Cannonvale Pool, was a big success and it was all due to the local families all pitching in,” he said.
Parkinson also commended all the Cannonvale Cannons who participated, as they represented themselves and the club with pride and were really supportive of each other.
Highlights include: ELEVEN year olds were the star performers.
Jy Parkinson set four personal bests (PBs) and broke two North Queensland records at the weekend.
His best swims were his 400m freestyle in a fantastic time of under five minutes and his 100m backstroke in an excellent time of 1.11.34.
Both swims were North Queensland records.
Evie Herlihy swam four PBs over the weekend.
Her best swims were her 100m IM and her 400m freestyle in a time of 5.26.34.
Evie has now qualified for three state short events.
Mikhaila Flint achieved top placings in most of her swims and set PBs in five of her swims.
Her best swim was her 100m IM in a time of 1.17.29.
Hayden O’Hanlon set three PBs out of his four swims.
His best swim was his 100m backstroke in a time of 1.38.62.
Tegan Hanks swam very well and her times were on par with her previous top times.
Jy, Evie, Mikhaila and Tegan have all qualified for events at State Short Course.
The nine-year-old swimmers were also on fire this weekend.
Emma Smith set five second PBs in all her events.
One of her best swims was her 50m freestyle which she swam in 41.43 sec.
Tiana Bell set PBs in four out of her 5five swims and swam PBs in her 50m breaststroke, 100m IM, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke.
Blake Hanks’ best swim was his 50m backstroke which he swam in a time of 54.04sec.
Zoe Herlihy’s best swim was her 100m IM and 12-year-olds Samantha O’Hanlon and Kimba-Lee Simmonds had a sensational weekend.
