Coral research funding
MAYOR Andrew Wilcox raised possibilities of coral farming in
the Whitsundays in May this year.
In July, in a letter to the editor, I raised the urgency for coral agriculture to be front and centre post cyclone Debbie disaster handout outcomes.
I refer to the Whitsunday Times story 10 million Windfall for the Whitsundays on Thursday, September 14, and at the end of the money allocations I see $500,000 to be allocated to coral propagation research and coral gardening.
I sincerely hope Councillor Wilcox and councillors make certain this money is only the beginning of government funding to advance coral research here in the
Whitsundays and not for a financial outcome for an opportunist to put coral in fish tanks.
