Jet boats overcome rocky ride
THE team at Island Jet Boating proudly walked away with the gold award in the highly contested New Tourism Business category.
The win was of great importance to owners, Steve and Toni Ward, after commencing operations in what could be described as a tumultuous year for many businesses, and even more so for newly established tourism operators.
Island Jet Boating ran its first tour to Daydream Island on Boxing Day last year, hitting the Whitsunday waters with great success.
But only three months into its operation, things changed dramatically with the arrival of Tropical Cyclone Debbie.
While the vessel avoided any damage, the cyclone caused significant destruction to Daydream Island, as well as Steve and Toni’s Daydream Island Watersports business.
Thereafter, two one-hour offshore jet boat tours were launched.
“Although there was no longer a Daydream Island component, it was very important to us that the whole experience of the jet boat ride was not compromised in any way,” Mr Ward said.
Sister company, Whitsunday Jetski Tours, also won silver in the Tour and Transport Operator category, as well as silver for Adventure Tourism.
