WHITSUNDAY Escape’s managing director Trevor Rees was honoured to win the Unique Accommodation gold for the second year running on Saturday night.

The charter boat company, specialising in ‘skipper-yourself’ boating holidays, also won the same prize in 2010.

“It has been a very tough year,” Mr Rees said.

“Yet, with the support of our great staff, we have seen our business grow from strength-to-strength.

“We are very confident about the long-term future of Whitsundays, partially in light of the recent government funding.”

Mr Rees also said he was hopeful that a number of Whitsunday operators would be recognised at the upcoming Queensland Tourism Awards.

The Whitsunday Escape charter base is located at Airlie Beach with 33 boats on offer and countless anchorages.

Reservations manager Alita De Brincat said the team members were at the heart and soul of the business success.

“Every customer interaction, from the first phone call to the final goodbye is exemplary and we wouldn’t have won the award without it,” she said.

So what makes the business so unique?

“It’s all in one, in that you get your accommodation as well as tours all together in one fabulous holiday,” Ms De Brincat said.
