GOLF: The North Queens­land Ladies open cham­pion for 2017 is Mackay’s Shae Holmes who shot an seven over score of 153 for the 36 holes.

Shae plays off a hand­i­cap of 0.The event was played at Proser­pine over 36 holes, on Satur­day and Sun­day.

Two Ayr ladies took out the A-grade gross win­ner and run­ner-up, Tara Jenk­ins 158 and Laura An­der­sen 167.

The lo­cal win­ners are Me­lanie Pat­ullo the A-grade net win­ner with a 137, Noe­lene Spur­way is the B-grade gross run­ner-up with a score of 187.

Penny Wardroper is the B-grade net win­ner with a 139 and Jac­qui Wall is the B-grade net run­ner-up scor­ing 148.

Beryl Nos­wor­thy took out the C-grade one win, Paula McQuat was the C-grade two win­ner, and Nola Gid­dins is the se­nior gross win­ner af­ter scor­ing a 167.

Play­ers trav­elled from eight dif­fer­ent golf clubs from the North Queens­land re­gion to at­tend this event.

The club thanked Shae Holmes, the GNQ rep­re­sen­ta­tive, for or­gan­is­ing and run­ning the event, thanks was also of­fered to res­i­dent gold pro­fes­sional at the club Roger Van­den­berg.

Van­den­berg said all 51 women ladies com­pet­ing has a good time and there were some close scores.

“They had a great time out here and look for­ward to next year’s event,” he said.

The win­ners took home a swag of tro­phies, pro-shop vouch­ers and wine glasses as prizes.

“It bring all the ladies in the area to test their skills with other ladies from around the re­gion.”

Men’s pen­nants

THE A, B and C men’s Golf North Queens­land pen­nants for 2017 was played at Rowes Bay and Townsville on October 7 and 8.

The Proser­pine Golf Club had seven play­ers in each of the A, B and C-grade teams, and each played two matches on Satur­day and one match on Sun­day with the fol­low­ing over­all re­sults.

A-grade fin­ished third in Divi­sion 2, and re­main in Div 2 for next year

B-grade fin­ished fourth in Divi­sion 1, and now move to Div 2 for next year

C-grade fin­ished fourth in Divi­sion 1, and now move to Div 2 for next year

The club ap­pre­ci­ates the 21 male mem­bers for rep­re­sent­ing the club in this GNQ an­nual event.

The 2017 men’s Graded Match­play Cham­pi­onships at Proser­pine is un­der way in the A, B and C-grades.
