Valleys take out Warriors after rain
CRICKET: An under-strength Valleys side was lucky to come away with the points after securing victory against the Warriors at the weekend.
Winning the toss and batting, Warriors struggled with Valleys opening bowling duo Mike Hope (3/24) and Ricky Parslow (2/35) making short work of Warriors’ top order.
Adam Passfield (23) was the only batsman to show some resistance before Hope struck the timber.
Aaron Regan (1/18) and Tony Hinschen (2/35) kept the runs to a minimum and wickets flowing as Warriors were looking to be bundled out for less than 100.
A promising last wicket partnership between Shane Knight (14 not out) and youngster Matthew Hansen (38) helped the Warriors crack the hundred and finish on 8/124 after 30 overs.
Valleys were off to a less than perfect start, losing two quick wickets thanks to some tight bowling from youngster Matthew Shoebridge (2/31).
With an action somewhat reminiscent of his father and older brother, Matthew will be a force with the ball as he continues to grow and find his feet in senior cricket.
Ricky Parslow (45) was again reliable with ball and bat, combing with Brett Simpson (46 not out) to put a win in Valleys sights.
Youngster Regan Knight (1/0) did all the work to have Parslow caught and bowled, however with only a few runs needed for victory it was too little, too late with Valleys home by seven wickets.
This Saturday will see Valleys taking on Canecutters, with the game to start at 12.30pm at the Proserpine Cricket Grounds.
