Cycling champion to speak
CYCLING-MAD district residents will have a chance to hear one of Australia’s most decorated track cyclists speak at a fundraising luncheon in Mackay later this month.
Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anna Meares will host the In Pursuit of Happiness lunch at Harrup Park Country Club to raise money for RACQ CQ Rescue.
Meares, originally from Middlemount in Central Queensland, was the 500-metre track time trial world champion on four occasions and a gold medallist at the Commonwealth and Olympics Games.
At the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, she took the gold in the keirin, her 11th world title in total.
She was also captain of the Australian team at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she won a bronze medal in the keirin.
This made her the first Australian to win individual medals in four consecutive Olympics.
Tickets are limited and include a two-course lunch.
Tables of 10 are available or individual tickets are $80 per person. To book, visit www.cqrescue.org.au/events
