Rally call for teams to join local Relay
A SEA of purple will take over Whitsunday Sports Park on October 13 when the Relay For Life kicks into gear.
Families, friends and work colleagues are invited to join forces and team up to celebrate survivors, recognise their carers, and raise funds for those who are still living in the midst of cancer struggles.
This year, the Whitsunday Relay For Life will be a nine-hour event held at Whitsunday Sports Park in Jubilee Pocket.
The Relay For Life is a family friendly event with teams capped at 15 and the recommended amount of people per team at 10.
At least one person from each team must be walking or running a lap of the course for the duration of the event with a prize for the most laps completed up for grabs.
Teammates can walk or run together, but each lap only counts as one.
The theme for this year’s event is Dr Seuss, so teams are encouraged to dress up to make the relay colourful and fun.
Whitsunday Relay For Life Chair Wendy Barker said the event was a good way to show support for the Cancer Council and for those in our community who are fighting cancer.
“Everyone’s affected by cancer in some way in their life so we want to make sure that we support all of those people and let them know that they aren’t alone,” she said.
Participants and teams are encouraged to register online as soon as possible.
Registrations are $40 during the week and on the day of the relay and can be done through the Relay For Life website.
