Spring’s in the air as visitors secure triumph
GOLF: The NQ Men’s Pennants were played over the weekend, C-Grade played at Proserpine, B-Grade staged at Sarina and the A-Grade contested at Pioneer Valley.
The C-Grade saw some success for the locals on Saturday, winning both matches comfortably against Collinsville and Bowen, but on Sunday Ayr proved too strong, winning five and a half games to Proserpine’s one and a half, to take out Division two.
Home Hill made it a “Burdekin” weekend by taking out the Division three on a countback, and Black Springs proved too strong over Rowes Bay, Mackay and Lavarack in Division one.
The A-Grade secured only one win over the weekend, being defeated by both Ayr and Home Hill.
Unfortunately, the B-Graders suffered another defeat, not winning a match and being relegated to division three for next year.
Sponsors for the weekend were BC Constructions, Bartz Plumbing and Ryan Building.
In Proserpine Golf Club action Thursday’s men’s single stableford attracted 54 players, with some good scores recorded.
Mark Schubert was the 18-hole winner with 42 points, from John Roser, Glenn McKerley, Wayne Temby and Paul Joice, all on 39 points.
Rod Wecker, Nathan Holmes, James Devery, Barry Mortimer, Fraser Simpson, Jim Dowell and Brendon Meharry followed on 38, while Steve Mitchell and Geoff Fitzsimmons had 37.
Completing the run down were Michael Cragg, John Grosskreutz, Trevor Paroz and Jim Grace on 36.
The nine-hole competition was won by Rod Wecker, 22, on a countback from Michael Cragg with Mark Schubert coming in in third place with 21 points.
The pin shots went to John Roser on two, Travis Clinch on nine, Lew Tuck 13 and Nathan Holmes on 16.
The Ladies’ monthly medal played on October 3 was won by Pam Casey with a fine 68 nett. Runner-up was Mandy Patterson on71.
In the run down were Wendy Bradley, Tessa Aitken and Kath Borer.
The pin shots went to Wendy Gough on nine, Pam Casey 13 and Wendy Bradley on 16.
Next Saturday will see the Volkswagen Scramble for the ladies run after 11.30am, and before this will be a single stableford for the men.
The open Volkswagen Scramble will be held on November 17.
