Speeding without a licence
A DINGO Beach man caught speeding and driving without a licence has narrowly escaped an immediate prison sentence.
Adam Donald John Forbes, 34, pleaded guilty in Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday to disobeying the speed limit and driving without a licence.
Prosecutor Robert Beamish said police used a laser speed detection device that showed Forbes driving at 95km/h in an 80km/h zone on Gregory-Cannon Valley Rd at Strathdickie at 4.40pm on July 31.
Mr Beamish said Forbes told police at the time he was driving from Dingo Beach to Airlie Beach and had missed the 80km/h sign because his child was crying in the back seat.
The court heard Forbes had already lost his driver’s licence at the time.
Representing himself in court, Forbes said he was driving because his wife was in the back seat attending to their son, who was “playing up”.
Forbes was sentenced to one month in prison, wholly suspended for six months. He was disqualified from driving for six months.
