LEN WEIN 1948-2017
Len Wein, the comic-book writer who co-created characters such as Swamp Thing and X-men’s Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman in the X-men film franchise, died on Sept. 10. He was 69. At press time, no cause of death was released for the writer, who had undergone heart surgery in 2015 and had recently had minor surgery on his heel (it went “very well” tweeted his wife, lawyer Christine Valada, on Sept. 8). Wein “will be remembered for the bold heart with which he infused his stories and characters,” said Marvel Comics in a statement. Tweeted Jackman: “Blessed to have known Len Wein. I told him—from his heart, mind & hands came the greatest character in comics.”
