On Nov. 14, the fu­ture King of Eng­land, Prince Charles, reaches a sig­nif­i­cant mile­stone – he’ll be 70 years old. Charles cer­tainly hasn’t had an easy time in the pub­lic gaze. Af­ter his ed­u­ca­tion – in­clud­ing a stint as an ex­change stu­dent at Vic­to­ria’s Gee­long Gram­mar at its ru­ral Tim­ber­top cam­pus in the 1960s – and mil­i­tary ser­vice, Charles was ex­pected to find a fu­ture princess and set­tle down. In Charles at Sev­enty: Thoughts, Hopes and Dreams, roy­als cor­re­spon­dent Robert Job­son re­veals Charles’ fa­ther, Prince Philip, pres­sured his son to pro­pose to Diana Spencer. But Job­son claims Charles “des­per­ately” wanted to get out of the 1981 wed­ding. He didn’t, and so be­gan a trou­bled mar­riage.
