Try a dif­fer­ent adapter

If you’re us­ing a PC with a built-in wire­less adapter, you can test whether it’s work­ing or not by plug­ging in a USB one. It’s not the sort of thing peo­ple gen­er­ally have lay­ing around, but they’re avail­able for less than £10 on­line and may pro­vide a stop-gap while yours is re­paired. If the USB adapter works where the built-in one doesn’t, at least you know where the prob­lem is.
