When Portia de Rossi left her favourite vegan restaurant in LA after catching up with her brother Michael Rogers, it should have been a happy occasion.
Woman’s Day’s exclusive photos show the actress – who just celebrated her 46th birthday – was in tears.
“Portia was distraught as she walked to her car
– she had tears streaming down her cheeks,” says an onlooker. “She wasn’t even trying to hide it.”
Sources say her public meltdown happened after hearing some bad news. “Portia is really close to her family, especially Michael, who seemed to have told her something upsetting. It’s not like her to lose her composure in public,” an insider explains.
“She’d be devastated if it was something to do with her family. Her mum is getting older, so that’s understandably a worry for her.”
And it’s not just family issues that are at the forefront of Portia’s mind – her marriage to chat show queen Ellen DeGeneres, 61, has weathered some harsh ups and downs, too.
Although they do their best to put on a united front, the comedian has admitted that they don’t see eye to eye over her future.
While Portia is ready for her wife to hang up her talk show shoes, Ellen’s brother Vance is keen for her to stay on.
“It’s caused clashes as Ellen has extended her contract and it seems she’s taking Vance’s advice over Portia’s,” adds the insider. “It’s no wonder Portia is feeling overwhelmed. She’s usually so fun and positive and no one wants to see her devastated like this.”
