It helps! Hit the su­per­mar­ket for items that can live hap­pily in your pantry (such as canned toma­toes) or freshies that linger longer than most in the fridge (hello, eggs and cheese). Be more spar­ing with del­i­cate leafy greens such as rocket or baby spinach, which tend to wilt and turn slimy af­ter a few days. In­stead, get your fill from hardier ones such as cab­bage and kale (if the lat­ter is look­ing a lit­tle grim, just trim and re­move the stalk and plunge the leaves into iced wa­ter for 15 min­utes). Healthy pro­tein sources such as fish fil­lets or chicken ten­ders also work a treat, as they keep in the freezer for months and can be de­frosted at a mo­ment’s no­tice. Win!
