Black holes can’t be seen, but by mea­sur­ing their ef­fects, they can be lo­cated. In 1974, as­tronomers Bruce Bal­ick and Robert Brown used ra­dio waves to dis­cover the su­per­mas­sive black hole at the cen­tre of the Milky Way, nam­ing it Sagit­tar­ius A*.
