Lions preparatio­n complete

Mulwala rounded out its season preparatio­n with a practice match against Koo Wee Rup Football Club on the weekend, playing a mixture of the senior group in six 20 minute quarters.

Koo Wee Rup fielded a strong senior list of players who had made the long journey up to the boarder; in their playing group were past Mulwala players Anthony Guliano and Scott Houghton.

The conditions were fantastic for football and Lonsdale Reserve was in excellent condition for the clash.

The Mulwala group started well with excellent intensity around the contest which enabled them to hit the score board early in the contest.

Hamish Hoskins showed he will be a great asset in the ruck with his taps giving the Mulwala mid fielders first use of the football.

There were good signs with the playing group implementi­ng the basics of new coach Michael Touts game structures, which helped to keep the Koo Wee Rup players under constant pressure.

Full Forward Ash Frout showed flashes of brilliance which is sure to excite the Mulwala faithful throughout the season.

Mulwala opens the season with an away clash against Barooga who always seem to produce a strong team with a mix of locals and a number of imported stars.

The game will be a real challenge for the new look Mulwala outfit who will once again blood a number of young players to senior football.

The new game plan may well take time to evolve but the way the players have approached the preseason games indicated that they will certainly develop into a competitiv­e outfit during the season.

The Mulwala juniors, 14s and 17s, along with the netball group, will use the coming week to fine tune their preparatio­ns and are all looking forward to the challenges that will present during the season.

The under 14s still have positions available for players who want to challenge themselves at Murray League level in a fun environmen­t where developmen­t and enjoyment are the key focus.

Don’t sit on the fence or sit on the bench this season come and join the Lion cubs and have some fun.

Training is at 5pm Tuesday and Thursday at Lonsdale Reserve under the guidance of local footballin­g legend Denis Phibbs.

Club membership­s are available at the club rooms on Tuesday and Thursday evening so come down sign up to support the young local talent in their quest for Murray League glory.

The kitchen and bar are open so come along and enjoy the atmosphere in the build up to the season opener.
