YMGCR Bowls
Time flies when you are having fun, another very busy week for the club.
Tuesday was the closing day when members acknowledged the efforts of the executive team and committee members over the last year.
The day began with some fun bowls, three games of six ends with a variety of challengers along the way, very interesting and most enjoyable. The winners were Lorna Brown and Barry Pitt with Kaye Smith and Paul Talbot runners-up.
Thank you Jan Corboy and Loris Lochhead for arranging the bowls.
Following the fun on the green members retired to have lunch in the club rooms, which was enjoyed by the bowlers and a number of non-bowling guests and members.
Special guests on the day were Toni Hart and Pat Fairburn, who represented Friends in Common. Thank you Jean and Helen for organising the catering and to all the ladies who set the tables.
At the completion of lunch a dutch auction for some wine was run by Val Flanagan, the bidding was fast and furious with the funds raised included in a cheque which President Albert (Dodi) Dodman presented to the Friends in Common representatives. The club is proud to be able to make a substantial con- tribution to such a wonderful local support group.
After the formal part of the day was completed Jan Corboy offerred tokens of thanks and appreciation to the past committee members and workers within the club, culminating in recognition of two senior bowlers, Elma Old and Lorna Brown, for their continued involvement and commitment to the club. It was really inspirational to have them on the green. Social bowls for the winter are now on: Midweek will be 12.30 on Tuesday (names in by 5pm Monday) Sunday 2-4-2 at 1pm (names in by 11am) If you are interested in joining a great bowls club where you will be welcomed to a very happy and friendly enviroment check out the special offer for new members.
