Developer charge increases in budget

Federation Council’s draft Development Servicing Plan (DSP) is part of its overall draft budget consultation process from May 27 to June 29.

The DSP is proposing increased developer charges of $5,2225 for water and $4,400 for sewerage, as decided last year at council’s September meeting.

Because the charges are substantially higher, after no increase for many years and to bring into line with other local government areas, council was keen to flag its intentions since that meeting. A story appeared in the Free Press and Yarrawonga Chronicle at that time.

After presenting his financial report, council’s Director Finance and Organisation Kim Parker presented a status report on water and sewerage for council’s latest meeting, on May 16.

“There’s a lot of good news stories concerning water supply and sewerage activities,” he said of his report tabled at the meeting, for activities to April 30, 2017.

“Our 20 staff across Federation Council area are working away and providing effective services, efficient services. It’s quality water in and other material out.”

The irrigation lease for Corowa Sewerage Treatment Works has been finalised with Brindley and Wilson, and commenced January 1, 2017.

The new Balldale bore has been constructed, the pump installed and commissioned.

Modifications to the operation at Corowa Saleyards with overload at times of the wastewater irrigation system are expected to be completed by the end of May. The overload is being generated by the washdown and truckwash.

Tenders are being considered for the Victoria Street Corowa Inlet Pump Station. Quotes are to be called for structural modifications to the Corowa and Howlong Water Treatment Plants.

System design is underway for Howlong’s Clear Well Reservoir at its water treatment plant. Details of other works were also tabled.

“Practical completion of council’s Operating Plans for Water and Sewerage Works are on target for 30 June 2017,” Mr Parker said.

“Likewise, the bulk of the 2016/17 Water and Sewer Capital Works Program is also on track for 30 June 2017.”
