The aim of National Families Week is to celebrate the vital role that families play in Australian society.
The 2017 theme ‘Stronger families, stronger communities’ highlighted the important role families play as the central building block of communities and recognising that community wellbeing is enhanced by family wellbeing.
National Families Week is a time to celebrate with family, make contact with extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community.
Picnic in the Park allowed the community to celebrate the significance of family and to remember to make the most of family life by reflecting on the critical role that families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing children, especially as they grow.
Australian communities celebrated the importance of families in locally organised events held around the country for National Families Week from May 15 to 21.
Councillors Marie Martin, Ed Cox, Wendy Buck and Mayor Gary Cleveland chat with Coral and Len Davis at last week’s session in Numurkah.
