Three in a row for junior Pigeons
Foggy wet conditions greeted the young Pigeons on Sunday as they took to the field looking for three wins in a row.
The boys were full of confidence from the previous weeks as they tackled the fourthplaced Raiders outfit.
With home ground advantage, the boys started slowly in tight tense first quarter with neither side giving an inch in a very willing and contested game of football.
After some minor adjustments at quarter time, the boys started to gain control of the game, tackling hard and lifting there work rate.
Jet Peters was the beneficiary of fine lead up play and kicked the first goal of the game. Darby Mullins was influential in the ruck giving the on ballers first look at the football.
More scoring opportunities would come toward the end of the quarter with Jacob Prestage looking lively across half forward along with first-gamer Noah Clarke.
Just like the first quarter the third was an arm wrestle.
With both defences on top scoring opportunities were hard to come by, but when they did it was Raiders who took advantage kick- ing a goal late in the quarter closing the gap to three points at the last change.
A refocussed Pigeon outfit came out with a steely resolve lead by Darcy Hicks who stood his ground taking a vital intercept mark deep in the last line of defence early in the last quarter. In a flash of brilliance the boys switched the play to the clubroom side of the ground.
Hard running Jack Bassett, who was brilliant all day, gathered the ball superbly and ran hard kicking long into forward line finding loose players everywhere.
Xavier Walker finished off the move with a great team goal. Mitch Loughnan capped off another hard working game with a sealer to deliver a hard-fought victory.
The boys now sit 3 and 3 and are looking forward to the next challenge at home against the Bulldogs.
