Cups of tea, friendly chatter and fun were the order of the day at the Yarrawonga Friends in Common Cuppa for Cancer last week.

An incredible $12,000 was raised on the day, with thanks from Yarrawonga Friends in Common President Helen Glasheen to everyone who supported the event.

“It was an amazing event which raised $12,000, a portion of which was sent to Cancer Council Victoria,” Ms Glasheen said.

“Many, many thanks to the Mulwala Water Ski Club, in particular Cathy Randell, and all the staff who each year go out of their way in so many ways to make this a special day for us.”

Mulwala Water Ski Club President Len Langford presented a cheque for $1000 to Friends in Common in support of the fundraising effort, a gesture very much appreciated by the group.

“Thank you to the many businesses who donated goods and vouchers for the spinning wheel, and who also ordered morning tea, which was delivered to each of the participating businesses,” Ms Glasheen said.

“We would like to thank very sincerely the students from Sacred Heart College, who gave up their time to assist with the spinning wheel.

“They are amazing young people who are great ambassadors for their school. Thanks Marg and Kerrie who accompanied the students and who kept the whole thing ‘spinning’.”

On behalf of Friends in Common, Ms Glasheen also thanked Yarrawonga Health and Kae Kennedy who provided more than 400 scones and the many, wonderful members of the community who were very generous in baking cakes or making slices and sandwiches to provide a beautiful morning tea.

Thanks also to others who assisted on the day by selling raffle tickets and door tickets or helped with plating the morning teas.

“A very big thank you to those of you who attended the Mulwala Water Ski Club, your presence and support enables us to continue helping those in our community who are undergoing treatment for cancer,” Ms Glasheen said.
