Tungamah flood guide now available
Tungamah residents now have access to an SES Local Flood Guide, specific to the area, to provide information about the risk of flood and how to be prepared.
Members from the Victorian State Emergency Service (SES) with assistance from local CFA Brigades and Victoria Police have delivered Flood Guide information to communities within Moira Shire and City of Greater Shepparton.
The SES worked with Moira Shire, City of Greater Shepparton, the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority and the Federal Government’s Natural Disaster Resilience Scheme to produce the guides for key flood-prone towns in the region as part of a state-wide plan.
Communities of Tungamah, Congupna, Katandra West, Katamatite and Tallygaroopna, now have these resources available to them via the SES website www.ses.vic.gov.au
Tungamah residents can also pick up a copy at the Tungamah General Store.
The Flood Guides include information for residents, farms and businesses to inform them about their risk of flood and to help them ensure they are properly prepared.
“In many cases, the biggest impact from floods in this area is on roads and bridges, often impassable, damaged by powerful floodwater or covered by debris,” said SES North East Regional Operations Manager Neil Payn.
“SES knows it’s vital for families and communities to be aware of flood risks, put together an emergency survival kit and prepare and practice a flood emergency plan - basically be ready before a flood even happens.
“SES and other emergency services work hard together to reduce the impact of emergencies, including floods and storms on our community.
“These new Flood Guides will help SES and Council work in partnership with communities to reduce flood damage and help to keep our community members safe.”
You can access the Tungamah Flood Guide on the SES website or collect one from the Tungamah General Store.
