Thanks for Meals on Wheels volunteers
Usually more accustomed to delivering meals to others, MHA Care Meals on Wheels volunteers instead enjoyed being treated to a special thank-you lunch in their honour last week.
The National Meals on Wheels Day luncheon provided an opportunity to thank those who take time out to deliver daily meals to members of the community, enabling them to continue living independently in their own homes.
MHA Care CEO Michael Hogan thanked the volunteers for their valuable contribution to the Meals on Wheels Program in Yarrawonga.
“In the last twelve months the Yarrawonga volunteer team has delivered 10,909 main meals to 100 clients,” Mr Hogan said.
“An amazing effort and highlights the strong community spirit in Yarrawonga.
“Across the Moira Shire our volunteer team has delivered 28,510 main meals to 310 clients.”
Mr Hogan said there was no doubt Meals on Wheels was “more than just a meal”.
“We nourish – by providing a meal deliv- ered to your door, we care – by ensuring our clients are safe and have a well-being check and we strengthen communities – by offering a service that brings people together – locals helping locals,” he said.
“National Meals on Wheels Day is the ideal occasion to recognise, pay tribute and congratulate you our volunteers whose commitment and support is immeasurable.
“Without you we would not be able to provide this important essential community service.”
Through the support of the Yarrawonga Community Opportunity Shop, ClubMulwala and the Federal Government Volunteer grant, MHA Care presented petrol vouchers as a thank-you to the to the volunteers in recognition of their time and costs.
Mr Hogan thanked ClubMulwala for their continued support of the program and for hosting the thank-you luncheon.
