Lakers set for another big season
Season 2017-18 is set to start for the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club on Saturday, October 7 and with the Wangaratta & District Cricket Association making a few changes to the format, it promises to be a very exciting year ahead.
The bulging B Grade competition of last season has been divided into two grades with the inclusion of ‘A Reserve’ to complement the existing A, B and C grades.
A and A Reserve grades will start on October 7 with B grade starting a week later on October 14.
The C grade teams will then fire up on October 21. The YMCC are set to field one team in each of these grades.
Saturday morning Junior cricket will start on October 14 with the Lakers fielding one under 16 team, 2 under 14s and 3 under 12 teams.
The under 12s will also see the introduction of a new format this year which promises to have the kids engaged far more.
It is fully envisaged that the enjoyment factor and skill levels will skyrocket this season as the WDCA align the under 12s to the Cricket Australia Junior Pathway Program.
Friday night Milo In2Cricket and T20 Blast will start on October 20.
The T20 Blast takes over from our former Big Bash competition and is fully backed by Cricket Australia.
Participants will receive their own shirt and cap with their participant pack while the club will receive all new gear including a sound system to give the new Friday nights that real BBL vibe.
During the off-season, the YMCC has been kept busy maintaining last season’s quality playing group together, while adding some extra talent to top up an already imposing list.
Former Shepparton superstar Josh Lawrence comes to the club after moving to the district. Josh is a very exciting batsman and highly competent gloveman who will no doubt be a valuable asset to the club going forward.
John Ferguson and Shaun Hawking are also new to the club this year and will be looking to make their mark early.
Matthew Knight returns to the captain/ coach role of the A grade team and there is no doubt that his imposing leadership will play a crucial role as he guides the plethora of young YMCC talent throughout the season.
The A Reserve team will also be blessed with leadership talent under the guidance of Patrick Martin, a master tactician of the game.
Training started on August 20 and will continue each Sunday throughout September at 10am.
Friday, October 6 will see the club hold its Season Launch and Sponsors Night at Lakers HQ, Victoria Park pavilion from 6pm.
The senior leadership team and respective grade captains for season 2017-18 will be introduced.
This will also be a great opportunity to mingle with club sponsors and thank them for their support over the last twelve months.
Please come along and show your support for the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club, your local community cricket club.

Please remember that completing your registration as soon as possible will assist greatly with getting teams organised, particularly with the junior grades.
The YMCC is becoming a larger club every season and with that comes the need for volunteers.
In particular this year, the club desperately requires assistance to run the junior programs.
If you have a passion for junior cricket or cricket in general, please do not hesitate to contact the club and offer your assistance.
Registrations are now open for the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club season 2017/2018.
The club will field several senior and junior cricket teams this season along with Milo In2Cricket and T20 Blast programs – providing great opportunities for everyone to get involved.
