Local distance runner and well known Terry White Pharmacist, Cameron Wood successfully completed the gruelling 70km Berry Long Run while at the same raising the most funds of any participant for the Berry Street Foundation.

Held in August from the small historic mining town of Blackwood, located somewhere between Gisborne and Daylesford, The Berry Long Run was created a few years ago to raise money for Berry Street, a charity that helps children and families recover from the impact of family violence, abuse and neglect.

For Cameron the run provided a worthwhile challenge to raise money for a great cause and provided him a new found incentive to run further.

Cameron finished a credible eighth out of 39 starters, in an impressive time of seven hours and 10 minutes.

“After missing a couple of weeks of training due to injury, about eight to ten weeks out from the event, I was extremely happy with my time,” Cameron said.

In fact his time this year would have placed him on the podium in third in 2016.

“Thanks to the extremely generous Yarrawonga Mulwala community, I managed to raise $5,564.90 for Berry Street, and was the top fundraiser at the Berry Long Run this year,” he said.

“Just prior to the event my wife Megan and I organised a five kilometre fun run and walk from the boat ramp out along the track towards Kyffin’s Reserve and back as part of my fundraising.

“We had forty four participants that braved the cold and rainy conditions and we ended up raising $650 on the day. We plan to hold regular fun runs and walks in the future at various spots around town,” he said.

Cameron is no stranger to distance running after also completing the 56km Two Bays Trail Run this year in an impressive five hours and 15 minutes and breaking the three hour barrier in his second crack at the full 42km marathon distance in May last year.

“Unless injuries or other races get in the way, I’ll be back (at the Berry Long Run) next year hunting that sub-seven hour finish,” he said.

Cameron also thanked the following businesses that donated to the Berry Street Foundation; Terry White Chemmart National Head Office; Terry White Chemmart Yarrawonga; ClubMulwala; Mulwala Water Ski Club; Onslow Blasting Services; Megan Wood Personal Training; Thyme for Coffee; Motive Health & Nutrition; Barefoot Lifestyle.

All for a good cause marathon runner Cameron Wood successfully completed the gruelling 70km Berry Long Run recently.

Wood’s next challenge will be hunting a sub-seven hour finish next year.
