Driver de­tected four times le­gal limit

A Yar­ra­wonga man has a date lined up with the Mag­is­trates Court af­ter his ve­hi­cle was in­ter­cepted by South East State High­way Pa­trol mem­bers on Satur­day night.

Po­lice ob­served the al­legedly un­reg­is­tered ve­hi­cle on McLean Street, Yar­ra­wonga about 9.30pm and in­ter­cepted it.

The 34-year-old sub­se­quently un­der­went a breath test, re­turn­ing an al­leged al­co­hol read­ing of 0.222 per­cent.

He also al­legedly tested pos­i­tive to cannabis and is ex­pected to be charged on sum­mons for drink and drug-driv­ing and other traf­fi­cre­lated of­fences.

Ad­di­tion­ally, the man was ar­rested on an out­stand­ing war­rant over as­sault-re­lated mat­ters.

He has been bailed and is due to ap­pear at the Co­bram Mag­is­trates Court on Novem­ber 1 in re­la­tion to that mat­ter.

The in­ter­cept formed part of Op­er­a­tion Scoreboard, a statewide fo­cus on road user be­hav­iour which tar­geted speed, driver dis­trac­tion, seat­belt non-com­pli­ance, fa­tigue and drink and drug driv­ing in an ef­fort to re­duce road trauma.

The op­er­a­tion started on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 28 and fin­ished Sun­day night.
