New grant program
Federation Council has launched its Sponsorship and Community Grants program and is calling for applications for first round funding until November 3, 2017.
Announced at the first monthly meeting of the newly elected Federation Council on September 26, the new initiative aims to empower groups to develop ideas, projects and events which can contribute to the vibrancy and wellbeing of the community.
“The introduction of a new sponsorship program is expected to attract larger events to the region that provide a significant return on investment for the community,” council’s Director Corporate and Community Services Kristy Kay told councillors.
“The sponsorship program will operate year round for significant initiatives that can market Federation Council as a tourist destination and demonstrate a positive economic impact.”
An assessment panel will be established to review the applications received and determine successful applicants. The panel will include Crs David Longley, Andrew Kennedy and Norm Wales.
In the past, council has facilitated a Small Community Grants program totalling $30,000 in two rounds a year, the Tourism Events Grant program ($30,000 once a year) and free or discounted use of community facilities ($5,000 open year round).
Council staff have reviewed these programs to ensure the best possible outcomes are being achieved for the community.
“A new framework has been developed that proposes a more streamlined approach that will reduce administration costs by combining the Small Community Grants and the Tourism Events program,” Ms Kay explained.
Council has budgeted $20,000 in sponsorship, $55,000 in community grants and $5,000 for free or discounted use of community facilities for each component of this program.
