ON THE LAND Protecting water’s edge
A 1.5km stretch of 100mm steel bollards fencing with 16mm cable through every 3m apart bollard is protecting the water’s edge at Kyffin’s Reserve Mulwala.
The recently completed project was a joint venture by Goulburn Murray Water and Federation Council. With campers, caravans and vehicles away from the edge of Lake Mulwala, the fencing has helped enhance the wetland plants and birdlife in the area.
By encouraging the wetland plants, this will help guard against erosion and provide a micro climate for all species including Murray Cod.
In late August 150 anglers from various clubs enjoyed the surrounds. Organiser Steve Malcolm of Berrigan Angling Club said it was great to see the area improving and spoke positively of the completed works.
