Rampaging Bulls continue winning ways

Yarrawonga Chronicle - - Sport -

The Under 14 Bulls have continued their rollicking start to the season with a massive win over City Colts Blue.

The Colts were set the imposing but not impossible task of chasing 179 after a blistering batting display by the Bulls the previous week.

Under the guidance of stand-in coach Rod Willett, the Bulls knew that early wickets would be the key to the victory.

The opening partnership was broken in the second over when a mix-up allowed Jyda House to pounce on a loose ball to run out the Colts opener.

His co-captain Caleb Mitchell cracked through the defences of the number three to have the Colts in trouble at 2/11.

After a steadying partnership it took a great catch from Dillon Kirchen off the bowling of Luke Phillips for the next wicket to fall. This was the start of a monumental collapse.

Left arm Pocket rocket Harry Barker forced a poor stroke from the Colts batsman with the ball snapped up by Desi O’Kane.

The Colts cracked under the overwhelming pressure built up by the Bulls.

Wickets to Sam Wood and another brilliant run out from Jyda House had the Colts 6/40. Dillon Kirchen came in to wrap up the tail taking a career best 3/7 with the Colts bowled out for 59.

The Bulls sent the Colts back in with 18 over still remaining for the day.

It didn’t take long before the Colts were in all sorts of trouble.

Two wickets to Austin Willett and one each to Tanner Irvine, Oscar Elliott, Barker and O’Kane had the Colts 6/21.

The Colts then batted out the day to hold off a rare outright victory to the Bulls.
