Sacred Heart bomb hoax
Sacred Heart Primary School was evacuated to Sacred Heart College last Thursday when the primary campus was threatened with a bomb inside the school grounds.
Senior Sergeant Darren McGrillen from Cobram Crime Investigation Unit said the school had received a phone call around midday on Thursday threatening a bomb had been planted inside the school and was ready to detonate at any time.
Students were evacuated to the secondary college campus immediately with police saying that staff did a fantastic job following their evacuation procedures, transferring students to the neighbouring college safely and promptly.
Police arrived and searched the school a short time later but did not find any unwarranted object.
Fortunately the incident had minimal impact on the students but parents were notified to collect children from the college and later returned to the primary campus to collect belongings.
Students had also been well behaved with complying with teachers and staff during the ordeal.
Sacred Heart Primary school principal Arn Gorman made a statement after the incident stating; “students and staff were evacuated to Sacred Heart College in response to a bomb threat received at midday last Thursday, December 14”.
“The staff followed the emergency management procedures efficiently and effectively, moving all students to the multipurpose building where children were collected by family members and carers. “Representatives from emergency services were very positive in their assessment of how the event was handled and that appropriate actions were taken,” Ms Gorman said. Investigations are underway to find the perpetrator and their reasoning behind performing the act.
