Yarrawonga is now supplying residents of Goorambat with a more reliable water supply with a new $1.5 million water pipeline built.

North East Water recently completed the 11 kilometre underground pipe linking the township to Yarrawonga’s water supply.

Managing Director Craig Heiner said the new pipeline is an extension of an existing pipe that previously ended in Devenish.

“Nearly 70 homes and businesses in Goorambat will benefit from the new pipeline,” Mr Heiner said.

“Customers will have noticed an immediate change to their water quality, with more rigorous treatment processes now in place.

“The town will no longer experience salinity issues and residents will have a safer, more reliable supply linked to the Murray River.

“The new water source will reduce the likelihood of restrictions during dry times, as the previous supply came from a shallow bore which was unreliable in drought periods.

“It’s a positive step for the town’s future growth with the pipeline allowing us to supply more residential and business development.”

Minister for Water Lisa Neville added “This is a great project that will benefit the local community and reflects the Government’s commitment to expand the water grid where we can to deliver water security for more Victorians.”
