The Mulwala Pioneer Museum is even brighter and cooler as a result of an upgrade to the building’s air conditioning and lighting.

The works were a result of the museum receiving $50,000 in funding from Federation Council’s Stronger Community Grant.

The Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society put forward an application for the grant for their upgrades a few months ago through Federation Council Project Consultant Deanne Drage and were successful in gaining the grant.

“One of the reasons behind us putting in an application was because we used to only open of a morning in the summer because it was so hot in the museum,” Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society member Bruce McKean said.

“We wanted to be able to have the same opening time all year round and we also wanted to make it better for our volunteers who work here.

“As well with the lighting our bills were far too high and this new lighting is much more economical being LED.

“We’ve now got ten air conditioners where we used to only have three so it is much more comfortable.”

Bruce said the historical society had been thinking of getting the works done for many years but had not been able to afford it so they were now immensely grateful to the Federation Council and Deanne in particular for helping them become the recipient of the funds.

“Deanne helped us massively through the Stronger Communities Grant by helping us with the application and applying and we are very grateful to her,” Bruce said.

“We got a lot of support from the Federation Council for the whole thing, with many members being very helpful and kind to us so we would just like to say thank you.”

Member for Albury Greg Aplin and Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke were special guests to the unveiling ceremony where they both spoke on their pleasure that the grant money was going to such a worthwhile cause and together unveiled the recognition sign at the museum entry.

“The purpose of the funds is to build more vibrant, sustainable and inclusive local communities and for such a localised business to receive it is just fantastic,” Cr Bourke said.

“On behalf of Federation Council I would like to congratulate the Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society on improving their heating, cooling and lighting at the Pioneer Museum for the comfort of visitors and volunteers alike as well as to ensure visitors for many years to come.”
