Pre season returns for Mulwala

Yarrawonga Chronicle - - Classies Classies -

The preseason training has resumed for Mulwala’s football and netball teams in preparation for the 2018 Murray League season.

Netball try outs begin this week and the under 14’s football begins training on Thursday evening 5pm so come and join in the action at Lonsdale Reserve.

The opportunity to have the whole family involved on the one day is a huge bonus of being involved at Mulwala Football Netball Club.

The under 14 team is a great place to improve your football and learn more about the great game under the guidance of local legend Dennis “Pickles” Phibbs and young senior rising star Harry Crossley.

Harry has joined the coaching team and his passion for football and his background as a personal trainer will certainly mean the young players will be fast tracked in their learning on how to improve their fitness, skills and prepare as a player.

So don’t sit behind the fence or spend the season sitting on the bench wishing you were out on the ground, come over and join the Mulwala 14’s and 17’s teams.

Michael Tout is continuing in his senior coaching role with the support of Michael Fletcher as reserves coach, assistance from Jason Sanderson and Clinton Shand.

Michael certainly fast tracked the young player’s development across the 2017 season by showing faith in them and teaching them to work cohesively and to play system based football.

The 2018 season will be one that the coaching group look to build on the successes of the 2017 season and further develop the young players from within the club.

Numurkah was the only team that Mulwala didn’t achieve a win over last year and their loss to the leagues perennial power house Nathalia had them rueing what may have been and the Mulwala players will need to continue to improve to ensure they keep up with the bunch.

The Mulwala senior playing group has seen the addition of a number of players who will certainly improve the strength of the overall playing group.

The return of Doyle, Wilson, Davis, Russell, Beams, the Vissenga boys, plus a host of other locally based players will add to the clubs depth heading into the 2018 season.

There are also a large group of young players stepping up from the under 17’s team who will be pushing for selection as Mulwala’s football department continues to put faith in our locally produced talent. Mulwala regularly fielded a team with seventeen or eighteen players who had developed in the clubs junior programs and this is set to continue this season.

The Murray League will once again be a hotly contested competition with Nathalia setting the bench mark along with Numurkah, Barooga, Moama and Mulwala looking to improve on their 2017 seasons finals finish and complete with the top teams.

The rest of the competition have also made inroads into improving their playing list and will be looking to climb up the ladder.

Mulwala opens the season against Congupna on Good Friday at Lonsdale reserve which will be a great event and a challenge for the club.

Get behind the Lions in 2018 with a membership and come along to Thursday Night training dinners and enjoy the excitement of the home games.
