A crucial game to win for the Lions didn’t start well, with Finley taking charge from the start and the Lions never able to peg back the margin.

The girls tried all day to stop Finley’s fast play and strong goaling combination, with Mulwala’s attacking end combining well and shooting accurately.

But no matter which combination we placed out on court and how many turnovers the Lions were able to achieve, Finley were too smart and finished the high scoring game with a solid win.

Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Steph Hammond, MFNC Rewards Card – Grace Thomson, OneZach/BrewIt – Brodie Pfeiffer.

A top effort for the Lions with outstanding defensive pressure by everyone, providing an exciting team to watch.

Mulwala delivered a real team effort against the Cats with the shooter’s accuracy impressive is such windy conditions.

The Lions went into the last half with a 5 goal lead, however, strong drives and great play resulted in the Lions dominating the second half and coming home with a comprehensive 18 goal win.

After a week off with the bye and a cancelled training due to the weather the Lions took a quarter to get themselves into the game with a rather lacklustre first quarter performance.

A stern talk and specific individual goals saw a new look Lions side take to the court.

Intensity increased, as did a more positive approach to the game and the girls found their form and started to build a lead.

Heidi was magnificent in defence, coming out of nowhere to take some spectacular intercepts, with Abbey, Jess and Sarah delivering the ball into attack.

Tess and Jess were tireless in attack, and Lauren Heffer from U15’s debuted and killed it in WA.

With Lilly moving to QLD, Hollie and Chelsea worked together well in goals, and will only continue to get stronger as a goaling combination.

Well done girls on being able to dig yourselves out of a poor first quarter and finish strongly.

Awards: Foodworks Top Lion – Jess Barton, YMGCR – Heidi Magro, Wingates / BrewIt – Hollie McNamara, Mulwala Bakery Awesome Effort Awards – Lauren Heffer & Sarah Ryan.

This week’s game against Finley was a nail biter.

The girls came out in the first quarter firing with a 9 goal lead, but the Cats responded, closing the gap and managing to take a 5 goal lead by half time.

After a few mistakes and unanswered dropped balls, the girls got themselves together and fought back in the last quarter.

With only a few minutes to go the Lions were down by 3 goals and the crowd was on the edge of their seats.

The Lions responded to the pressure situation with every player putting in 100%.

They stepped up their defensive pressure all the way down the court and managed to claw their way back and finish with scores level at 36 apiece.

Bad luck girls, it was a tough game from the beginning causing the Lions to drop their heads.

This resulted in Finley gaining a strong lead in the first quarter, making it all the more difficult to come back from.

Despite trailing by a large margin for much of the game, the girls continued to give 110% effort, showing their determination and great sportsmanship.

Mulwala 12 defeated Finley 3

This week the girls were up for a challenge, with only 7 players and knowing they had a full game ahead of them.

Coming out strong with tight defence, Maisee had her hands over every ball and used her height to advantage.

Milla watched the play and allowed herself to work off her player, gaining constant intercepts.

Jasmine and Myley had competition down the attackers end with tall defenders who applied constant pressure.

With Emily driving and feeding the ball perfectly into the ring, they had the ability to work with each other and set up around their players and soon grabbed a strong lead.

Coming away with yet another win, the girls should be super proud of their efforts, and keep the positive attitude going.

Awards: Foodworks Top Lion - Milla Fletcher, YMGCR – Emily Linehan, Travel & Cruise Yarrawonga – Maisee Pell.
