Local Basketballers Country Vic selections
Six local YMBA Basketballers were selected to attend Basketball Victoria Country pathway development camps that were held last week in the U12 and U14 age groups.
The U12 BVC Jamboree was held in Echuca over 4 days last week and the U14 Golden Nugget Camp was held in Ballarat over 2 days.
From their participation in the Under 12 Skills Days, Heidi Wallden, Mia Wheaton and Anna Zanin were selected to represent Country Victoria at the recent BVC Jamboree in Echuca.
This event matches country Victorian ath- letes against each other and the local girls represented themselves extremely well.
The girls took part in spectacular opening and closing ceremonies, participated in a 3-on-3 competition organised by the countries governing body of Basketball (FIBA), took part in specialist coaching sessions and played 5 games of basketball under expert coaching guidance.
It was a wonderful learning experience for the three girls and they came away with enormous development opportunities and made some great state-wide friends along the way.
In the U14 age group Lochie Harvey, Brodie Chapman and Chloe Wheaton were se- lected from the regional Academy Program to attend the elite 2-day BVC Golden Nugget Camp at Ballarat.
YMBA coach Brett Harvey also attended as a coach, which shows the calibre of talent in both players and coaches that we have here in Yarrawonga.
“The impact this has on our local association is enormous,” said YMBA President Amanda Wheaton.
“These talented athletes and coaches are exposed to basketball skills at a higher level and they can bring these skills back to our association and help lift our club to greater heights.
“It’s such a great experience for them. They have put in a lot of hard work to get this far and their efforts have been rewarded. It’s fantastic.”
