LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Briggs Gem Collection
The Briggs Gem Collection looks as if it has, at long last found its home.
More than two years ago the Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society inc became the owners of the residue of the long-lost Briggs Gem Collection previously on display at the tourist information centre.
After many hours of tedious and filthy work, methodically through layers of dirt and detritus the pieces were brushed, cleaned and identified.
Thank you to Kevin Evans and friends for the reconstructed display tables however the purchase of four glass cabinets has absolutely put the Gem Collection into the top-class category.
The upmarket display units now give the pieces a huge visual impact to the importance of the Briggs legacy to the people of Yarrawonga and Mulwala.
They will be well received by both visitors from far and wide once the museum advertises the fact that the Dean and Mya Briggs Collection is again on show for you – the local community.
I hope this will happen at the 150th celebrations of the surveying of our township this week.
Parts of the museum are perhaps looking tired, however I venture to suggest that the purchase of four more glass units will give the whole collection the protection, safety, focus and the impact it warrants and deserves. We have long awaited this beautiful display. I believe it to be a very unique and valuable collection of which the Briggs family will once again be deservedly very proud.
Visit the museum to see them for yourself. Your faithfully, Noel Hunt.
