Sen­sa­tional Syd­ney ex­pe­ri­ence

Ta­lented sports­man Liam Wil­liams re­cently par­tic­i­pated in the Evonne Goolagong Na­tional Devel­op­ment Camp in Syd­ney. He was se­lected to be in­volved in this pres­ti­gious camp af­ter be­ing suc­cess­ful in the se­lec­tion process in Shep­par­ton.

Liam reg­u­larly plays with both the Yar­ra­wonga Lawn Ten­nis Club and Tungamah Ten­nis Club and is known for his agility and de­ter­mi­na­tion on the court. The week­end away in­volved be­ing chap­er­oned by his coach and be­ing flown to Syd­ney which was a ter­rific ex­pe­ri­ence.

The Evonne Goolagong Foun­da­tion that over­saw the camp is re­spon­si­ble for de­vel­op­ing ta­lented ten­nis play­ers be­tween the ages of 12 and 21. One of the aims is to sup­port young In­dige­nous play­ers who have the po­ten­tial to play at the elite level and to make a ca­reer as ei­ther as a player, coach or ad­min­is­tra­tor.

At the camp Liam had a se­ries of in­ten­sive ses­sions on the court as well as men­tor­ing ses­sions on diet, fit­ness, rest­ing and school­ing. He is hop­ing to fol­low this up with be­ing in­vited to at­tend a Goolagong Na­tional Devel­op­ment Camp which is held at Monash Univer­sity in Mel­bourne dur­ing the first week of the Aus­tralian Open.

Liam al­ways works hard on the prac­tice court.

He en­joys par­tic­i­pa­tion in the lo­cal ju­nior squad and chal­lenges him­self to con­tin­u­ally im­prove. Over sum­mer he will par­tic­i­pate in a range of tour­na­ments in the area and it is as­sured he will al­ways give his best chas­ing down ev­ery sin­gle ball on the quest for vic­tory.
