YEN - - LETTERS -

Hey, hi, hello there, Yen. Eye spy with my little eye, Isabella Manfredi’s ripper rhinestone shades peeking out at me from behind a messy collage of printed publications. Gosh, that girl’s future is so darn bright she’s gotta wear shades! I must admit, splurging on a real-life magazine and taking the time to indulge in some good, oldfashioned ‘me time’ is rare for me these days. Once home and settled with a bowl of English breakfast tea and your luxurious matte stock between my fingertips, I read your stunning ode to all things ‘Straya and miscellany of homegrown thoughts, feelings and wonders. Thank you Sarah Pannell for reassuring me that in a world of city slickers, it’s okay to adore humble suburbia, thank you Jessica Yu for your unapologetic frankness on everyday racism, and thank you Annie and the Yen team for re-igniting my faith in the creativity in this country, for celebrating the masters, mavens and misfits who call this sunburnt country home, and for making us think about why we are lucky to call Australia home too. High fives in abundance, Latoyah Letter of the issue Dearest Yen, As a year 12 art student, and an avid disciple of your fabulous magazine, I was absolutely blown away by your past two issues (75, 76). Stuck in a pit of sinking gloom regarding my art folio piece, I was elated to come home to the inspiring words of Alexandra Valenti and again in a couple of months time to the beauty that was your ‘Seascape’ edit. Fair to say I’m not 100 per cent decided what my folio will be, but holy guacamole, I’m far closer to it than I was four months ago and for that I say thank you, Yen. Grace Halo Yen, On a wintery Monday afternoon, upon returning home from a sweet tropical escape in Bali, I find myself sitting in bed sipping on a cup of tea with the new Yen (purchased from the airport, always the sweetest magazine buy) in hand, pondering on the thought that reality isn’t actually too bad when I get to flick through the fresh pages of the Yen adventure issue. Thank you for brightening up this autumn Melbourne day for me and making me feel enlivened for my next adventure escape. Terima kasih, Madi
