THE SUNLIT NIGHT

Rebecca Dinerstein, Bloomsbury, $27.99 The Sunlit Night follows two New Yorkers who separately escape their claustrophobic lives for a tiny archipelago in the Norwegian Sea – Frances to an artist’s colony to “learn to paint with only the colour yellow” and Yasha to fulfil a promise to his father to bury him “at the top of the world”. Dinerstein’s dreamy prose and layered narrative make this quirky story, of an unlikely meeting at the edge of the earth, un-missable.
