Trinity Doyle, Allen & Unwin, $16.99 Teenager Lucy was the local backstroke champion, normal and relaxed with a clear path ahead. That was until her older brother Cam’s unexpected death catapulted the family into sprawling directions in a bid to recover. As her mother struggles to get out of bed, Lucy’s interests drift away from swimming and instead she finds herself sifting through her brother’s life before he died. Trinity Doyle’s young adult, debut novel expertly portrays the emptiness of sudden death and the effects on family life. Don’t let the serious subject matter turn you off, it’s a raw and fastpaced read thanks to zippy dialogue.
