TheGe­neal­o­gist’s 1921 col­lec­tion

With on­line ac­cess to the 1921 cen­sus not ex­pected un­til at least Jan­uary 2022, TheGe­neal­o­gist has com­piled its own 1921 ‘cen­sus sub­sti­tute’, in the form of more than a mil­lion records from 1921 trade di­rec­to­ries. This new col­lec­tion of­fers fully tran­scribed and search­able records from 26 re­gions of Eng­land (many of them en­tire coun­ties) plus the Chan­nel Is­lands, and Aberdeen in Scot­land. Among the fa­mous names in the data are re­tail mag­nates Harry Gor­don Sel­fridge and Jesse Boot, and au­thors AA Milne and JM Bar­rie.

Mean­while the site has also re­leased more than 1.3 mil­lion par­ish records for Northum­ber­land, some dat­ing back as far as 1560.
